2023 Weingut Emmerich Knoll Riesling Smaragd, Wachau, Austria Aldo Viola Southern exposition with sandy loam/siltFrom steep, terraced vineyards around Loiben and Drnstein on primary rock soils of gneiss and mica schist, this is Knolls archetypal dry Riesling at the Smaragd levelfull ripeness balanced by crystalline acidity. The grapes are hand harvested, pressed gently, and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and large neutral oak, where the wine rests on fine lees until spring bottling.
