St John's Gate on a Sunday, Clerkenwell, London oast house the Romantic poet Robert BurnsSt John's Gate on a Sunday, Clerkenwell, London, 1926 1927. The gate was built in 1504 by Thomas Docwra, prior of the Priory of the Knights of Saint John. It served as the south entrance to the inner precinct. Part of the building is now used as a museum of the Knights Hospitallers and the St John's Ambulance Brigade.
