Having previously supported his taking of the throne, Henry Stafford (1455 1483), 2nd Duke of Buckingham led a rebellion against the recently crowned Richard III (1452 1485) of England in 1483, with the intention of replacing Richard with Henry Tudor. Buckingham attempted to cross the Severn at Gloucester but ten days of storms and rain swelled the waters so it became impassable. He was
