American Flag with 48 X's For Stars, C. 1910 Watercolor School Drawing doll head with wire earrings rain or shineI know this flag was painted by a young Edna Mohler found along with a crayoned maple leaf listed separately and dated 1910. I count forty eight "x's" for stars interesting, since Arizona, the 48th, was not added until 1912. So perhaps this was done just a bit later or perhaps Edna was not perfect in her counting! Whatever the case, the X's feel pretty poignant at the moment, and the rich color, and slightly wavering bleeding edges on the stripes,
