His family was protestant, and his father Wilhelm was a woodworker. His wife was named Willy, nee Flggel. He stood at 180 cm, thin build and beardless, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was a Feldwebel with the 105th Infantry Regiment, 5th company raised in Wittlich along the Westwall.
