Constructed of silver gilt, the obverse featuring an enamelled white and red symbol of the Red Cross, surrounded by an enamelled green laurel wreath with beneath enamelled black Maltas shield, encircled by Latin inscription IN HOC SIGNO SALUS (In this Sign, Health), with a white enamelled border, with plain reverse, surmounted by typical of time period Spanish royal crown, measuring 45 mm (w) x 66 mm (h inclusive
