In the distance are two of the men who did not stop to help. The scene is based on the parable as recorded by St Luke. The Samaritan was the only man who stopped to help a man who had been beaten and robbed. Samaritans in the time of Christ were a people despised by the Hebrews. The engraving was taken from an original painting that
