'The St Jago monkey' [Green monkey] Size:M: 75 x 60cm choleric ulceration of a Peyer'sZoological study of the Green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus), a species introduced to St Jago in the Cape Verde Islands and used as an eighteenth century pet. The animal is depicted on a patch of greenery holding two pieces of fruit. Plate 215 from chapter 5 of Gleanings of natural history, exhibiting figures of quadrupeds, birds, insects, plants, &c, by George Edwards, volume 1 (London, for the author, 1758). The plate is inscribed: 'Published
