Bagnigge Wells was a popular spa which thrived from 1760 to the end of the eighteenth century and had a reputation for 'loose women and boys whose morals are depraved'

with a sailing ship and a rowing boat in a rough sea at its base

but fell into disrepair until the ruins were converted into a private house for the Courtauld family in the 1930s
