Sweden, Kingdom. An Order of the Sword Silver Merit Medal consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac light scuffing on the undersideInstituted in 1748. In silver, obverse centre shows three crowns around inscription KING AND FATHERLAND, reverse inscription reads For the Soldiers Merit, inclusive of crown suspension 44. 8 mm (h) x 31. 2 mm (w), on original yellow ribbon, very fine condition. Housed in case from a French maker, extremely fine condition. Footnote: The Order of the Sword was instituted on 23 February 1748 by King Frederick I. It was conferred upon Swedish military
